Backup Server Fails to Identify Storage Resources Allocated by the VTL3605

Publication Date:  2012-07-18 Views:  66 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
The S5600 allocates two LUNs to the backup server and the VTL3605 allocates one ADIC Scalar1000 tape library and four IBM ILTO3 drives to the backup server. Symptom: 1. The backup server can identify the LUNs allocated by the S5600. 2. The backup server cannot identify the tape library and driver allocated by the VTL3605.
Alarm Information
Handling Process

Step 1 Log in to the management software.

Step 2 Find the backup server under the SAN Clients menu.

Step 3 Find one tape library and four drives mapped to the backup server.

Step 4 Right-click the tape library icon and choose Properties.

Step 5 On the displayed dialog box, change the number of LUNs to 2 (indicating LUN 0 and LUN 1).

Step 6 Repeat steps 4 and 5 to change the LUN IDs of the four drives.

Step 7 Scan for the hardware on the backup server and find the VTL3605.

Root Cause
The LUN IDs mapped by the S5600 may be incompatible with the LUN IDs mapped by the VTL3605.
