Publication Date:  2012-07-18 Views:  134 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

On a deployment site, the customer purchases two IBM X3950 servers (two enclosures are stacked) and one S6800E storage device. IBM X3950 servers run the Windows 2003 64-bit OS. During the process of installing Oracle 10i RAC clusterware, the servers have blue screens and the installation process suspends.

Alarm Information

Handling Process

Step 1 Use a new FC HBA driver. The fault persists.

Step 2 Uninstall the multipathing software and connect the servers to the S6800E by using a single path. The fault persists.

Step 3 Replace the Oracle version. The fault persists.

Step 4 Replace the operating system version. The fault persists.

Step 5 After analyses, the cause is that the two IBM X3950 servers employ stacking architecture. Split the two stacked enclosures into four independent servers and install four-node Oracle RAC. The fault is rectified.

Root Cause

Possible causes are relevant to the FC HBA driver, Oracle version, multipathing software, and operating system version. The specific cause needs to be located.

If an unprecedented fault occurs during a deployment, analyze the possible causes and gradually locate the root cause.
