A Hot Spare Disk Cannot Automatically Take Over the Services on a Faulty Disk

Publication Date:  2012-07-18 Views:  54 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
A S5500 enclosure contains the same number of SATA disks and FC disks. One SATA disk has been set as the global hot spare disk. After a RAID group is degraded, the hot spare disk does not start reconstruction.
Alarm Information
Handling Process
Set an FC hot spare disk for the RAID group that contains FC disks.
Root Cause
The SATA hot spare disk cannot take over the services on the faulty FC disk in the degraded RAID group.
When FC disks mix with SATA disks in an enclosure, an FC hot spare disk and a SATA disk must be configured to respectively protect the FC RAID group and SATA RAID group.
