Unable to Add the Standby Node to the MSCS Cluster

Publication Date:  2012-07-18 Views:  111 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
After a dual-node MSCS cluster is set up, users cannot add the standby node to the cluster. An S5000 storage device is used for providing quorum disks for the cluster, and the UltraPath software is installed on the active and standby nodes for providing the multipathing function.
Alarm Information
Handling Process
Step 1 By checking the hosts files and domain environments of the active and standby nodes, all settings are found normal, and both nodes can be pinged through without package loss. Step 2 By checking the setting of the UltraPath software installed on the active and standby nodes, the PPKey confliction is detected because their PPKey values are both 00000101, preventing the standby node to be added to the cluster. Step 3 Log in to the standby node to change the UltraPath PPKey to another value, and then restart the host. After this, the standby node can be successfully added to the cluster.
Root Cause
Given the MSCS cluster can be set up without errors, the problem is probably caused by the UltraPath settings or the domain environment.
The persistent reversed key (PRKey) is a permanently reserved parameter. Its default value is 00000101 where the first six digits 000001 stand for a cluster and the following two digits 01 stand for a node. Therefore, set different PRKey values for different nodes.
