Publication Date:  2012-07-18 Views:  378 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

One VTL3605 is connected to an HP RX8640 minicomputer whose operating system is HP-UX 11i23 through the HP StorageWorks 4/16 San Switch. After you have confirmed that the VTL3605 is properly configured, map the virtualized tape library to the HP host. However, the HP host cannot detect the virtualized tape library.

Alarm Information

Handling Process

Step 1  Run the kcmodule stape=static command to start the tape drive.
Step 2  Run the kcmodule schgr=static command to start the robot driver.
Step 3  Run the shutdown -ry 0 command to restart the minicomputer after the kernel is changed.
Step 4  After the minicomputer restarts, run the ioscan –fnCtape command to search for tape drives.
Step 5  Run the ioscan –fnCautoch command to search for robots.

Root Cause

The tape drive driver and robot driver are not properly loaded in HP-UX, which disables the host to correctly identify virtualized tape drives and robots.
