Issue Description

At a certain deployment, the VCenter 4.01 virtual machine and the VMware converter standalone 4.0.1 are installed. If the NetBackup 6.5 is used to back up the virtual machine from the ESX Server and then recover the virtual machine to ESX Server, the backup and recovery succeed. If the NetBackup 6.5 is used to back up the virtual machine from VC and then recover the virtual machine to VC, the recovery fails. The reported NetBackup error is numbered 5.

Handling Process

Step 1  Uninstall the VMware converter standalone 4.0.1, and then install the VMware converter standalone 3.0.2.
Step 2  Use the NetBackup 6.5 to back up the virtual machine from VC and recover the virtual machine to VC. The recovery succeeds.

Root Cause

When the NetBackup 6.5 recovers a virtual machine, it needs to use the VMware converter standalone 3.0.2. It is incompatible with the VMware converter standalone 4.0.1.
