After the Host Name is Changed on the VTL Console, the VTL Cannot Restart and You Cannot Log in to the Console

Publication Date:  2012-07-19 Views:  115 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

After the host name is changed on the console, the VTL cannot restart after you wait 6 to 7 minutes. Then, log in to the SSH and run the shutdown command. When you restart the system, the program still does not run and you cannot log in to the console.

Alarm Information

Handling Process

Step 1  Use the SSH to log in to the VTL and uninstall the VTL program.
Step 2  Copy the VTL file on the recovery CD to the /root directory and reinstall the VTL program.
Step 3  Restart the VTL and log in to the console successfully.

Root Cause

After the host name is changed, 5 to 10 minutes are required for thorough system start. During this period of time, you cannot log in to the console.
Manual restart by running shutdown interrupts the normal restart progress and causes the VTL restart failure. Therefore, you cannot log in to the console.

You need to wait at least 10 minutes after you change the host name. Do not manually restart the VTL; otherwise, service abnormality may result and you have to reinstall the VTL program.
