The NetBackup Upgrade Fails Due to the Incorrect Server Time

Publication Date:  2012-07-19  |   Views:  124  |   Downloads:  0  |   Author:  anliku  |   Document ID:  EKB1000007596

Issue Description

At a deployment where the NetBackup 6.5 is installed on the Windows 2003 primary server, the NetBackup 6.5.5 installation package was successfully installed. However, the NetBackup version shown in the NetBackup management interface was still 6.5. The upgrade failed.

Alarm Information

Handling Process

Step 1  Calibrate the server time.
Step 2  Uninstall the NetBackup 6.5.5 upgrade package. Then install the upgrade package again. The upgrade succeeds.

Root Cause

A NetBackup upgrade compares the system time and the file time. If the resulted time skew on the server is major, replacement of some files fails, causing an upgrade failure.
