Publication Date:  2012-07-20 Views:  51 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
At a commercial deployment, a Windows 2003 server connects to an S5100 disk array. On the disk array, seven 500 GB disks are allocated to a RAID 5 group, and two 1 TB LUNs are configured in the group for acting as the file sharing server. To meet increasing service requirements, the capacity of LUN 2 needs to be online expanded to 1.5 TB.
Alarm Information
Handling Process
Online expand the capacity of disks that are mapped to the Windows 2003 server using the LUN expansion function of the S5100, and then expand volumes on the Windows 2003 server. To do this, complete the following steps: Step 1 Log in to the management interface of the S5100. Step 2 Select the LUN to be expanded and click the LUN expansion button. Step 3 . Type 500,000 MB and click OK. And then, format the LUN. Step 4 Log in to the server CLI, and execute the diskpart command and then the list disk command to view disks on the server. DISKPART> list disk Disk ### Status Capacity Available Capacity Dynamic Gpt -------- ---------- ------- ------- --- --- Disk 0 Online 75 GB 0 B Disk 1 Online 1000 GB 0 B Disk 2 Online 1000 GB 0 B Step 5 Execute the select disk 2 command to select the disk to be expanded, and then execute the list partition command to view partitions on disk 2. DISKPART> list partition Partition ### Type Capacity Offset ------------- ---------------- ------- ------- Partition 1 Primary 1000 GB 32 KB Step 6 Execute the select partition 1 command to select the partition to be expanded. Step 7 Execute the extend command. DISKPART> select partition 1 Partition 1 is selected. DISKPART> extend The volume of partition 1 is successfully expanded. Step 8 Double-click My Computer to verify the expanded disk. Confirm that the updated disk capacity is 1.5 TB and the disk can be correctly accessed. Step 9 Online LUN expansion succeeds.
Root Cause
Only the last LUN on each RAID group of the S5100 is expansible when the group has available space.
