How to enable the IBM system x3650 server to discover the S2600S?

Publication Date:  2012-07-22 Views:  63 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
On a deployment site, an IBM system x3650 server running the CentOS 5.2 operating system is installed and connected to the S2600S storage system. However, the server fails to discover the LUNs mapped from the S2600S.
Alarm Information
Handling Process

Step 1 Add a SAS HBA compatible with the S2600S on the server.
Step 2 Connect the SAS HBA with the S2600S.
Step 3 Restart the server, and then it can discover the mapped LUNs.

Root Cause
The IBM system x3650 server is integrated with an adapter SAS HBA housing a SAS interface, by employing which the server connects to the S2600S. However, this interface is developed to connect the IBM SAS disk arrays, and thus is incompatible with the S2600S.
It is recommended to use the LSI 25R8060 HBA.
