Unable to Deploy Storage Devices Due to the Capacity Detection Error of Coffer Disks

Issue Description

Unable to deploy storage devices as they cannot be started properly.

Product and version information:
  • S5000 series
  • The version of the controller software is earlier than

Alarm Information


Handling Process

  1. Remove the hard disks that failed the capacity detection.
  2. Restart the storage device and wait until it runs properly.
  3. Reinsert the hard disks as mentioned above into their original slots.

Root Cause

  1. By checking the system log of the storage device, strings like "Handle VaultDisk fail" can be found, which indicates registration failures occurred during the registration of coffer disks.

    By locating the Slot id that is closest to the strings Handle VaultDisk fail, the slot of the coffer disk that is in question can be identified. The coffer disk in slot 3 failed the capacity detection, as shown above.

  3. By checking the version of the controller software, the version is found to be earlier than


  • The alarm thread is unexpectedly activated due to the failure of disk capacity detection, causing the registration of the controller enclosure and coffer disks to fail, and thus unable to deploy the storage device.


  1. This fault can also be removed by upgrading the storage software to or later.
