Abnormal File System When the UltraPath Software Is not Installed

Publication Date:  2012-07-22 Views:  622 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

The AS initially connects to storage devices through a single iSCSI path, and all the services are running properly. After adding a new iSCSI path, the file system cannot be mounted to the original LUN.

Product and version information:
  • S2600
  • The OS of the AS node is CentOS 5.3

Alarm Information

Handling Process

  1. Install the UltraPath software.

For the steps on installing the UltraPath, see the Oceanspace UltraPath for Linux User Guide.

  2. Restart the AS and scan for mapped disks.

Root Cause

  1. It is found that both iSCSI paths are used for the same LUN.
  2. The UltraPath is not installed in the OS.

  • Redundant disks are detected when the UltraPath software is not installed, causing the LUN fail to mount the file system.

Please install the UltraPath on the AS when the networking involves multiple paths.

If the UltraPath is not installed on the AS that connects to storage devices over two physical paths, two physical disks would be detected by the AS when adding Target connections on the AS and mapping one LUN to the AS on storage devices. Thus, when writing operations are performed on both disks, the node information previously created by the file system would be corrupted, causing the file system to be abnormal.
