Unable to Switch Over Redundant Links

Publication Date:  2012-07-22 Views:  522 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

An AS adopts multipath networking by connecting to a switch through a NIC and then to both service ports of the storage device. The supplied multipathing software is installed on the AS, and when one of the communication links is down, the AS cannot recognize mapped disks.

Product and version information:
  • S2600 (with the single controller)
  • S5000 series (with the single controller)
  • The OS of the AS is Windows Server 2003

Alarm Information

Handling Process

  1. Stop ongoing services.
  2. Uninstalled the UltraPath on the AS.
  3. Reinstall the UltraPath on the AS.
  4. Restart the AS.

Root Cause

  1. It is found that the iSCSI connection has been properly established during the AS and the storage device.
  2. The UltraPath is found to be correctly installed on the AS.
  3. Also, the UltraPath is found to be correctly installed before the establishment of the iSCSI connection, and the AS has not been restarted yet.

  • Unable to switch over redundant links due to the sequential error of installing the UltraPath software and configuring the iSCSI connection.

When the multipath networking is adopted between ASs and storage devices, please first establish iSCSI connections to connect ASs and storage devices, and then install the UltraPath and restart the AS after completing the installation.

For details on the UltraPath, see the Oceanspace UltraPath for Linux User Guide.
