ISM Unable to Find Devices Due to the Sequential Error of Setting Multiple IP Addresses

Publication Date:  2012-07-22 Views:  574 Downloads:  0
Issue Description

Discovering storage devices by selecting Local Sub-network fails in the ISM, and no devices can be found.

Product and version information:
  • S2600
  • S5000 series
Alarm Information
Handling Process
  1. Check the network segment where the maintenance terminal resides.
  2. On the maintenance terminal, update the IP address list of the NIC to which the management network port of the controller connects, and make sure the IP address in the first row is in the same network segment with that of the maintenance terminal.
  3. Log in to the ISM again, and then perform the device discovery.
Root Cause
  1. It is found that Local Sub-network(discover device(s) in the subnet where the client is located) is selected for the Discover Modes in the Discover Device dialog box.
  2. By checking the IP address list of the maintenance terminal, multiple IP addresses exist for the network interface card (NIC), and the IP address in the first row is in the different network segment with that of the maintenance terminal.

  • The ISM fails to find storage devices due to the sequential error of multiple IP addresses on the maintenance terminal.

When multiple IP addresses are configured for the NIC of the maintenance terminal, the one in the first row would be used for broadcasting. If that IP address is unavailable, no broadcast information could be received by storage devices, causing the device discovery to fail.
