Failure in multipath upgrading of UltraPath

Issue Description

The host in client field is Windows 2008 R2, and the storage array in backend is S5500. The multipath version 2.02.010 wasn’t installed successfully, and multipath drive doesn’t work. The kernel information can’t be checked.

Handling Process

Install the configuration file updsm.Inf of the multipath MPIO, and reboot the host. The physical disk the virtual disk are generated when it works.
As follows the specific steps:
1. Click “Beginning” ->“Administrative”-> “MPIO”

2. Click “Browse…”, select “updsm.inf”,click “open”;

3. Click “Yes”, reboot.

4. After rebooting, the multipath works.

Root Cause

The installation of the multipath software needs windows MPIO frame in the server, and the drive should be brought by itself. When the drive file is being installed, it needs reading its own configuration file to help finish the installation. But the MPIO elements doesn’t load the file updsm.inf, which results in the installation enters the abnormal branch and leads to the direct quit of the installation without the drive file being generated.


When you install the multipath software, check the file updsm.inf to see if it has been loaded in the MPIO elements. If not, operate manually.
