On some site, client uses RH2285 with LSI1068E-SAS card(12 disk position). Use the disk of slot 1 as system disk without configuring RAID, install linux. Finish deploying , and enter system successfully. Type fdisk –l command to check, there are only 11 disks, sde hard disk is lost. After reset for several times , the problem still exists.
Process 1: reset device, enter SAS card setting interface by pressing ctrl+c. choose SAS Topology option to examine hard disk position, BAY 4 hard disk is lost.
Process 2: pull out and insert slot 5 hard disk(BAY 4), ensure the link is firm. And then do process 1 again. The disk is still lost. So it is not the cause.
Process 3: insert the spare part disk to the slot and do process 1. The disk is still lost. So it is not the cause.
Process 4: power off the device and wear ESD gloves, replace new SAS card and SAS cable. Then power on the device. Do process 1, and problem still exists.
Process 5: power off the device and wear ESD gloves, remove SAS card, SAS cable and all disks. Replace new backplane. Install SAS card, SAS cable and all disks. Do process 1. Problem is solved.
When disks of server are inserted in subrack, they are linked to disk port, and linked to SAS card of mainboard via SAS cable. Examine according to this: hard disk>SAS cable>hardware.
There are many reasons that disks of RH2285 cannot be recognized. It may because of backplane, SAS cabel, SAS card and so on. You must examine and locate the fault position orderly. And you should bring all the probable spare parts.
