Solution to serious warning of abnormity of the fan rev resulting from the connection fault of the main board

Issue Description

The health indicator in the foreboard of the rack server is red and the noise is very serious.
Case 1:
The health indicator in the foreboard of the rack server is red.
Case 2:
In about a minute after powering on, the noise get more serious obviously.
Login the Web interface of RH2285 through management network interface, and there is serious warning from the view of “system information > system status”. As is showed:

Handling Process

Step 1: Power off the device and cut off the connection between the device and power. Remember to wear ESD gloves;
Step 2: Open the server and we can see the defending board on the mainboard;
Step 3: Change the wiring method following the figure 4.

Step 4: Install the defending board and the coping and power on the device. Check the system information again and the system status and fan status are back to normal with normal information, speed, and noise.

Root Cause

Check the information of the fan through the management WEB interface and check the hardware state with the power off.
1. Login the management WEB interface and check the current status of the fan from the view of “system information > system status” and make sure the serious noise is resulting from that one fan is abnormal which results in the speeding of other fans.

2. Open the server, and take the defending board. Check the hardware status of the fan locating between the mainboard and hard disk and the location of the binding post of the fan, which is marked yellow in the following figure. Enlarge the binding post and we can see that wrong wiring method in 3,4,5 has resulted in the failure.


The main reason resulting in such fault is the wrong wiring method after the mainboard is replaced. The possibility that there is some wrong in the original wiring method is too small.
