SFP hasn’t inserted well leads a lun of S3100 in Linux host changing to read-only

Issue Description

There is a S3100 storage connecting with SLES 9 SP3 operating system host in site. It warns in the service of host, examine the system state, we find that there is a lun in system changed to read-only.

Alarm Information

1. Examine the Event log of S3100 storage, we find there are many “Fibre Channel Link Down” and “Fibre Channel Link Up” warning information;
2. We can find many “EXT3-fs error” in system’s /var/log/messages.

Handling Process

1. Examine the connection between storage and host, we find there is a SFP haven’t inserted well. Insert well and watch for a period of time, the warning information “Fibre Channel Link Down” and “Fibre Channel Link Up” hasn’t appeared.
2. Unmount the file system, then mount again, reboot the service and work well.

Root Cause

By the analysis of storage and system log, we think the problem is the optical fiber connection between storage and host is unstable. We find some problems when the host read and write for lun, the file system changes the lun to read-only to protect the data from the more destroy.


Please examine if the SFP insert well when the storage deploys a site.
