FAQ-How to solve NON_PREFERRED_PATH alarm of S3000 storage

Issue Description

On some site, indicator of S3100 alarms, checking by storage management software, we find there is NON_PREFERRED_PATH alarm.

Alarm Information

The alarm information is NON_PREFERRED_PATH.

Handling Process

Check the link of controller A, find there is damage on the fiber. After replacing optical fiber, the problem is solved.

Root Cause

1. Check the log of the storage, we find there is alarm information as follow in controller A:
Date/Time: 6/15/09 5:35:02 PM
Sequence number: 11560
Event type: 1206
Event category: Error
Priority: Informational
Description: Fibre channel link errors continue
Event specific codes: 0/0/0
Component type: Channel
Component location: Host-side: controller in slot A, port 2
Logged by: Controller in slot A
2. Check the connection state of the host.

one of the connections is down.
If the useless information in the storage is over time, there will come “Fibre Channel Link Errors” alarm log, because there are always problems in the link, there is a lot of “Fibre channel link errors continue” alarm, and switch the data to other link, so the host can visit the volumes of controller A only by controlling controller B, which lead to “NON_PREFERRED_PATH” alarm in storage.
