A customer site purchase several RH2285 server, RAID card is 1068E, customer operate according to instructor. After RAID is made, install operating system with Service CD, reboot server after installation. Server does not enter new installed operating system and print no boot device found, keep reboot. Reboot device and enter BOIS. RAID group of RAID card cannot be found in BIOS. Enter RAID card configuration interface, all RAID group is normal.
Through guiding customer to inspect, boot support option of LSI 1068E RAID card is Disabled, guide customer to change it into default Enabled BIOS & OS and reboot device, it can boot normally from installed system.
There is a boot support option in 1068E RAID card, four options are Enabled BIOS & OS、Enabled BIOS Only、Enabled OS Only and Disabled. Default option is Enabled BIOS & OS. In this situation, BIOS control RAID card during startup, scan RAID group of RAID card, and display in hard disk list of BIOS. We can configure hard disk first boot option to boot from new installed operating system after installation. When Disabled is selected, BIOS do not control RAID card during startup, do not scan RADI group of RADI card, BIOS cannot find RAID of RAID card, so it cannot boot form local RAID of RAID card. In this situation, we can still scan hard disk information of RAID card and use hard disk through corresponding software in OS.
HUAWEI Service CD is equal to a bootable OS with 1068E driver. We can find local RAID and install operating system to RAID after Service CD guide device. But as boot support is configured as Disabled, and cannot find RAID disk in BIOS, so it cannot configure boot from this hard disk, even with this operating system, it still cannot boot from RAID hard disk of 1068E after reboot.
1. Disabled function of boot support of 1068E RAID card is designed for storage of this RAID card. Storage OS is embedded OS and commonly in CF card. It is different with LSI RAID card driver. Many storage configure this option into Disabled to speed up startup. BIOS would not scan disk of RAID card during startup to speed up startup. After storage system startup, load RAID card driver with corresponding storage controller OS and then scan disk. For servers which need local RAID to start OS, boot support cannot be configures as Disabled.
2. During field deployment, do not modify improperly on system software and hardware parameter.
