When using the multiple paths software STMS of the Solaris host, we change the mode of the initiator’s multiple paths at the side of the array, we may meet with the phenomena that the disk type of the Solaris host can’t be updated. For example: at the side of the array, set the multiple paths mode of the initiator as “ALUA”, and map a LUN to the host, the Solaris host will create a logical disk. Then modify the multiple paths mode of the initiator as “default”, execute the scanning LUN operation at the host, the logical disks created by the original STMS will not update to the physical disks. Modify the multiple paths mode of the initiator from “default” to “ALUA”, it will appear the similar problem.

Handling Process

Delete the LUN mapping, change the initiator’s multiple paths mode as to the needed one, and then restart the host, map the LUN again.

Root Cause

The Solaris STMS can’t update the management mode of the hard disk’s path timely.

Suggestions

1. During the site deployment period, please choose the right multiple paths mode of the initiator firstly, and then map the LUN.
2. For the Solaris host, don’t modify the initiator’s multiple paths mode arbitrarily, if it’s need to change, please restart the host.
