If there isn’t I/O interaction between the HP-UX 11iv2 and the storage device for a certain period (about 1 minute), see from the storage, the status of the host initiator is “unconnected”, as the picture 2 displayed.

Alarm Information

Handling Process

This problem doesn’t impact the actual service, it’s a normal phenomena.

Root Cause

The HP-UX 11iv2 application server can connect the storage device normally, and run the corresponding service, the server will disconnect with the storage automatically once there hasn’t any read-write operation for a certain time; if the application server needs the read-write, it will connect with the storage device again and dispense the read-write command, compared with peer vendor’s storage device, there has the same phenomena.
Thus, we conclude that it’s the HP-UX’s own mechanism causes the status of the storage initiator is “unconnected”.
