DHCP Option43 Windows server

Publication Date:  2012-12-28 Views:  278 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

When we use Option43 for sending WLAN controllers`s ip address to access point by DHCP, AP does not receive it if we use Windows server dhcp. If we use dhcp on huawei switch or router - everything works fine.

Alarm Information

No any alarm information, just access point cannot obtain ip address of wlan controller.

Handling Process

Windows dhcp server generate incorrect payload in dhcp-responce packet. dhcp server didn't add two important bytes at begining of the backet payload.

Root Cause

Capturing of dhcp packets shows some strange bits in packet payload.

To solve this problem we need:
1. Calculate length of ip address of wireless controller and write it in hex-format. For example address in ascii format has 15bit length or x0F in hex-format
2. We should manualy edit Option43 field in windows dhcp server and add "03 0F" bits at the begining of field.
