The N8300 reports error while copying files through CIFS share file system

Publication Date:  2012-12-13 Views:  125 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

The N8300 can’t write new data to the file system in a site, there prompts “the number of links which is creating is excess over the value the file system can support”:

Alarm Information

“The number of links which is creating is excess over the value the file system can support”

Handling Process

Because the current number of the sub-catalogs has exceeded over the maximum confine, which has exceeded the range of specification. Suggest modifying the catalog stricture of the current catalog, changing the existing horizontal structure directory to the vertical directory structure. Reduce the number of files and documents in the same level directory. The directory layer should not exceed over 6 after modifying it as to the vertical directory structure.

Root Cause

Check the “samba” log in the N8300, we find there are lots of errors “NT_STATUS_TOO_MANY_LINKS” in the log. Check the number of sub-catalogs in the “/vx/HWNAS_SATA_13T/nftp2/shenz”, it has reached at 64K, which has exceeded over the maximum confine.
