VSI not UP when using MPLS TE on S5700-HI

Publication Date:  2013-05-30 Views:  1317 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

Before enabling the tunnel interface coresponding to the TE tunnel, the VSI is established and traffic flows are normal. After enabling the tunnel interface, TE is active but the VSI is down.

Alarm Information

Vsi                             Mem    PW   Mac       Encap         Mtu        Vsi
Name                            Disc   Type Learn     Type      Value     State
TEST                            --     ad   unqualify vlan      1500             down

Handling Process

in handling this issue I corrected configuration files of the 2 PE switches by adding the following sequence of commands:

tunnel-policy Policy
tunnel binding destination x.x.x.x te Tunnel0/0/1
tunnel-policy VSI2TE
tunnel binding destination x.x.x.x te Tunnel0/0/1
vsi TEST
tnl-policy VSI2TE

Root Cause

The cause of this occurence is not mapping the TE tunnel interface to the vsi using a tunnel policy. Without this tunnel policy the two features cannot interoperate because there is no mapping between them..

When using these 2 features together always remember to bind the vsi to the TE tunnel by using a tunnel policy.
