The disk space more than 2T can not be used in Windows

Issue Description

Hardware environment: RH2288 V2, LSI 2208 RAID card
Disk1 can only identify 2T disk capacity after installed Windows 2008 OS, the rest disk space can not be used.

Alarm Information


Handling Process

1) Select disk1 and right click on it, no GPT option in the pop-up window.

2) Select the created partition D and right click on it, then select the 'Delete Bolume...' to delete this partition.

3) Select disk1 after partition D deleted and right click on it, now there is GPT option in pop-up window.

4) Now all the disk space is avaible after convert to GPT Disk.

Root Cause

The defualt disk format is MBR, MBR format type disk only support not more than 2 TB, only 2 TB can be managed if the disk is more than 2 TB. So 4.6 TB disk have to use GPT format type.

Change the disk's format type from MBR to GPT type.


The disk can be convert from MBR to GPT format type only when the disk is empty. And the disk C( OS disk) can not be convert to GPT format type.
