At a site, a user attempts to install PV Driver for a Windows virtual machine (VM) that is migrated from the VMware platform through the V2V tool. An error message "Your system is been detected with errors to install PV Driver, please restart your computer and install again!" is displayed, as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1 Error message generated during the installation of PV Driver
1. If the error message shown in Figure 1 is displayed during the installation of PV Driver, restart the VM after the installation failure.
2. After the VM starts up, choose Server Manager > Device Manager and find PCI device in the right pane of the window.
At this moment, there should be a yellow excalmatory mark on the device driver icon, indicating that loading the driver fails.
3. Right-click PCI device and choose Uninstall from the shortcut menu to uninstall the device.
The residual information is deleted after the PCI device is uninstalled.
4. Restart the VM and install PV Driver again.
During the installation of PV Driver, the XenPci driver is loaded. If loading the XenPci driver is abnormal or fails, the error message shown in Figure 1 is displayed. The VM in question is migrated from the VMware platform and the migration tool uninstalls VMtools. VMtools are not completely uninstalled sometimes and thus residual information exists. In this case, installing PV Driver will fail because of the residual information.
Virtualization vendors in the industry install various virtualization software inside VMs, such as vmtools of VMware and PV Driver of Huawei. The virtualization software has similar functions and usually loads drivers of the respective vendors to devices. When a VM is migrated from a virtualization platform to Huawei cloud platform, the virtualization software of the original platform is uninstalled. However, the software may not be completely uninstalled sometimes, and the residual information is stored in the OS. When this occurs, installing PV Driver fails if the residual information conflicts with the installation environment of PV Driver.
