OS Installation Failed During System Capacity Expansion by Adding an RH5885 Server

Publication Date:  2014-05-20 Views:  90 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

A Huawei RH5885 server was added to the FusionCompute system to expand the system capacity. During OS installation, a message was displayed indicating that the IP address failed to be set or the server IP address was unreachable, as shown in the following figure. As a result, OS installation using Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) failed.

Alarm Information

Handling Process

Insert external NICs in the slots between PCIE-8 and PCIE-7 on the RH5885 server.

Root Cause

The bus IDs of slots from PCIE-1 to PCIE-8 are arranged in ascending order.
The onboard NIC is inserted between PCIE-6 and PCIE-7.
If the external NICs are inserted between PCIE-1 and PCIE-6, an external NIC rather than the onboard NIC will be mistakenly regarded as eth0.
Therefore, the OS installation fails.
