Our customer received an error when he started to install Fusion Compute in configure Host step. He got this error below:
"Failed to switch to root user."
"Failed to switch to root user." is displayed on the Configure Host page.
- Possible cause: The entered management IP address of the host is incorrect. For example, the host baseboard management controller (BMC) IP address is mistakenly entered as the host management IP address.
- Solution: Check whether you can use PuTTY to log in to the host through the entered IP address as user gandalf. If the login fails, the entered IP address is not the host management IP address. Enter the correct host management IP address on the wizard.
- Possible cause: IP addresses in the environment conflict.
- Solution: Remotely log in to the host using the host BMC and run the ifconfig ethX down command to stop the host NIC. On the local PC, ping the host management IP address. If the IP address can be pinged, IP addresses in the environment conflict. Change the host management IP address or the existing IP address that conflicts with the host management IP address.
- Possible cause: The host OS is not from the FusionCompute Computing Node Agent (CNA) software package.
- Solution: Log in to the host OS and run the service vnad status command to check whether the vnad service exists in the system. If not, the host OS is not the FusionCompute CNA. Reinstall the host OS.
- Possible cause: The wizard was installed from a network path.
- Solution: Start the wizard on the local PC.
