Other Errors Are Detected When the RAID Controller Card Is Checked by the MegaCli

Publication Date:  2015-06-18 Views:  124 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Hardware configuration:
An RH2285 configured with eight or twelve hard disks and an LSISAS1078 redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controller card

On the server operating system (OS), use the MegaCli tool to check the RAID controller card status. Errors are detected by the other error counter, as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2.

Handling Process
In general, no hard disk needs to be replaced when other errors occur. Determine whether a hard disk needs to be replaced based on the service operating status.

Root Cause
Other errors are non-fatal errors that are recorded from the internal register of the RAID controller card to the hard disk. The errors include unauthorized requests and errors returned from the driver, which do not affect services. Figure 3 shows the error description from LSI.

If these errors affect services, hard disk error logs will be generated in the OS logs.

Therefore, such parameter (Other Error Count) cannot be used as a standard for determining faults. You are advised to use OS logs instead.
Collect OS and RAID controller card logs for determining whether an exception occurs. If not, ignore the other error notification.
