Publication Date:  2015-06-25 Views:  333 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Hardware configuration:
RH2285 V2 configured with an LSISAS2208 controller card

Software configuration:
Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64-bit

At a site, the customer installs the operating system (OS) on the RH2285 V2 using the Windows 2008 R2 CD-ROM and SP1 CD-ROM. After the installation is complete, the system breaks down during automatic restart, (the desktop cannot be displayed, or the system stops responding), and settings cannot be performed, as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2.

Figure 2 OS stops responding

Handling Process
1.  Install Windows 2008 R2 using the Windows 2008 R2 installation CD-ROM (with the LSISAS2208 controller card mounted). After the installation is complete, the OS cannot be accessed or the OS stops responding. In addition, the SP1 patch fails to be installed.

2.  Install Windows 2008 R2 using the ServiceCD. The OS can be accessed, the SP1 patch can be installed, and the system does not break down.

3.  Compare the preceding two installation modes and find that exceptions occur during driver loading and system initialization. Table 1 provides comparisons between the two installation modes.

Root Cause
Microsoft confirms that Windows 2008 R2 (released in 2009) does not include drivers of E5-24XX chipsets released by Intel in 2011 and other components used by V2 servers. Therefore, exceptions occur during initialization.

Drivers provided by Windows 2008 R2 do not support hardware of V2 servers.

Install Windows 2008 R2 using the ServiceCD.

Install the OS on servers as follows:
  1. Query the server OS compatibility list (see the note).
  2. Install the OS in the way specified in the OS compatibility list. For details, see Server OS V100R002 Installation Guide.
Links of the server enterprise websites are as follows:
