Failed to Reclaim the SIR Space After All VIT Tapes Are Deleted from VEs

Publication Date:  2015-08-04 Views:  214 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

Product and version information: VTL6900 V100R005

The VTL6900-HAS (three SIRs) is deployed in the current environment. After all VIT tapes are deleted from two VEs, the SIR space fails to be reclaimed. The system log displays Not find the folder.

Handling Process

1.  Create a tape on two VEs respectively and add the two tapes to deduplication policies. Perform the following operations on both VEs.

     a. In the navigation tree of the VTL Console, choose Virtual Tape Library System > Virtual Tape Libraries.
     b. Right-click Tapes and choose New Tape(s) from the shortcut menu. Create a tape based on the creation wizard and add the tape to deduplication policies.

2.  Use backup software to back up a small amount of data (1 MB) to the two tapes.
After the backup and deduplication are complete, the two tapes become the VIT tapes.

3.  Perform the space reclamation again.

    a. In the navigation tree of the VTL Console, right-click VTL Servers.
    b. Choose Options > Deduplication > Reclamation > Start Space Reclamation.

4.  Check whether the reclamation succeeds. If it fails, contact Huawei technical support.

Root Cause

All VIT tapes are deleted. Unique data blocks cannot be correctly found when the SIR space is reclaimed.

When reclaiming space, ensure that each VE has one VIT tape.
