FAQ-Do VTL Devices Support Multipathing

Publication Date:  2015-08-04 Views:  490 Downloads:  0
Issue Description
Do VTL devices support the multipathing?

Products and versions:

VTL6000 V100R003
VTL6900 V100R005

During a data backup job, the initiator determines the data transmission path and the receiver stores the data, whereas the receiver cannot determine the data transmission path of the initiator.

As for a VTL device and a backup server, the backup server serves as the initiator and the VTL device serves as the receiver. The backup server determines whether the VTL device supports multipathing. Regardless of whether a backup server supports multipathing or not, procedures for mapping a VTL to a backup server are the same. For details, see Configuring a Backup Client in the OceanStor VTL6900 Virtual Tape Library V100R005 Configuration Guide.

As for a VTL server and a storage unit, the VTL server serves as the initiator and the storage unit serves as the receiver. The storage unit supports multipathing. The VTL software installed on the VTL server has the multipathing function inside.
