PCIe and Riser cards not visibile in iBMC, server Huawei RH2288H V3

Publication Date:  2016-05-26 Views:  315 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

PCIe and Riser cards not visible in iBMC, even if BIOS and iBMC are updated to the latest version

Handling Process

If BIOS and iBMC are updated accordingly, below steps to be followed:

1)Check if the PCIe are compatible with Huawei RH2288H server, by accessing link

2) If at Step 1, the cards are found as compatible,  gather hardware logs with One-Click Info Collection, from iBMC.

PCIe and Riser slots are related to CPUs.

Check the number of CPUs under dump_info\dump_info\AppDump\CpuMem, in the cpu_info log:

Cpu1 infomation :Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v3 @ 2.40GHz
Cpu2 infomation :Unpopulated

To each CPU corresponds a certain PCIe slot, as below:

For CPU 2, the corresponding slots are (at numbered positions, as per photo):

7                PCIe x8 slot 5 (J49 X8 PCIE SLOT HH/HL)

8                PCIe x8 slot 4 (J50 X8 PCIE SLOT HH/HL)

33              Riser card 2 connector (J3-J1005)

For CPU1, the corresponding slot is (at numbered position, as per photo):

9              Riser card 1connector(J2 PCIE RISER1 X16 SIGNAL)

Root Cause

As noticed in the hardware logs, the server has CPU1 present only.

A second CPU must be purchased for fixing the PCIe and Riser issues.
