FAQ-Wake on Lan feature implementation on Cloud Engine

Publication Date:  2016-06-30 Views:  2048 Downloads:  0
Issue Description

Wake on Lan is needed to be implemend in customer's netwok.

Cloud Engine will take the role of forwarding the Specific WoL Packets between Vlans where Clients need to be "awaken".

I. Prerequisite:

     a. Dedicated tool needs to be installed on a device, for example a server, in order to sent the Specific WoL Packets.

     b. Each Client's adapter needs to be set up in order to process the WoL packets and wake up\Power on the device.

     c. Routing is properly configured,  every device can reach each other (ping is working).

     d. Cloud Engine needs to run V100R005 system version or later

II. As an example we will use the fallowing scenario:

Device from Vlan 1 which has Solarwinds WoL Tool installed needs to Power On the PC from Vlan 10, as you see in upper image.

"ip forward-braodcast" needs to be configured on Vlanif 10, enables the virtual interface to receive and forward directed broadcast packets.

->the WoL packets are broadcast frame, therefor the upper command will forward them in Vlan 10

->an ACL can be used together with the command in order to filter the forward of directed broadcast packets

[huawei]acl 2000

      [huawei-acl]rule permit

[hauwei]interface vlanif 10

       [hauwei-if]ip forward-braodcast acl 2000

After the cnfiguration is done make sure the interfaces where the Clients are connected are configured as Access interfaces, having the Vlan 10 as PVID.
