Installing Drivers for HP printers Is Prompted Repeatedly

Publication Date:  2016-10-27 Views:  359 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

After configuring desktop policies, you map an HP printer to a VM. The driver CD-ROM embedded in the HP printer starts to install drivers automatically. After the installation, the printer works normally. However, after you restart the VM, a prompt appears on the desktop asking you to reinstall the drivers.

Handling Process

Open the driver CD-ROM. Find the UTIL folder, double-click it. Double-click SIUtility. Click Printer, select a port in the list. Click Next. A Disable HP Smartinstall on the selected Printer option is displayed. Select it and a Yes or No option is displayed. Click Yes. The text becomes red and the smartinstall function is disabled.

Root Cause

Most HP printers have an embedded driver CD-ROM which automatically starts installing drivers when the operating system detects a printer. After the drivers are installed, the automatic-start mode is automatically closed. However, for some printers, the automatic-start mode must be manually closed.

Remove and reconnect the printer. In Universal Serial Bus Controllers of the Device Manager, check whether USB printing Support is displayed. If yes, the problem is solved. You can print normally or reinstall drivers.
