When customer tried to create VM by Quick_Prep Template, the task always fail at 76%.
During the VM creation,the ITA will use WinRM service with vdekstop_user account to remote control the VM,then run the HWPrepNetService to join the VM to domain,the possible reason for this kind of error could be 1) Quick_Prep template issue 2) Antivirus software disabled the HWPrepAgent 3) windows firewall block the communication between ITA and template 4) vdesktop_user account issue.
So we follow below steps to make the troubleshooting.
1:Deploy a VM with the template from fusioncompute,then try to login with vdesktop_user account by VNC, but it failed, so we suspect the customer changed the password, this will cause the VM creation failed issue, but the customer feedback they didn't change the password ,and give us local administratror account to login the VM,we find the HWPrepNetService exist,so the template has no issue;
2)The WinRM service is running and listening, also the HWPrepAgent is running, so the only reason is related to vdesktop_user account;
3)We check the local users information in the template VM, we find the vdesktop_user account doesn't exist !
4)We ask the customer whether he deleted this account manually or by the GPO, because the Quick_Prep template will join domain.
The customer feedback there is a new GPO policy under the VM OU,this policy will delete all other accounts in "administrator" privilege group and only keep administrator.
Vdesktop_user account was deleted in the template by customer domain GPO,during the VM creation,ITA will use WinRM service with vdekstop_user account to join the VM to domain,so if vdekstop_user account doesn't exist in the template,the VM creation task will fail.
The Quick_Prep template will join domain,so we suggest the customer don't apply any GPO which will delete the vdesktop_user account or block the WinRM service listening.
