One of the 10GE port can't be detected by VMware on RH1288V3 server

Issue Description

The VMware ESXi was installed on RH1288 V3 server, and there are one 10GE interface with two ports for it, after installing the OS, when trying to create the vSwitch and add the adapter as below, we can find only one 10GE port,the other 10GE port miss.

Handling Process

1,Change the FC cable and the problem still exist

2,Change the connection port on the 10GE switch,the problem still exist

3,Change the SFP+ module in the port and problem still exist

4,Mount the toolkit to the server and reboot it to load the tool, then check the "dmesg" log file, we can find the error as below:

failed to load because an unsupported SFP+ module type was detected

Root Cause

The error show us that the speed(8G for FC port) of the SFP+ module insert in this port doesn't match to 10GE port

Solution

1,Change the 8G FC module to the 10GE module

2,Reboot the server to make sure the driver for the new module is load again,or run the command "rmmod ixgbe" and then "modprobe ixgbe" to reload it

Suggestions

Before the hardware installation and cabling, please pay attention to the type and speed of the SFP+ module and make sure they can match with each other
