ES3000V2 SSD card was lost after upgrade SuSE Linux kernel

Publication Date:  2018-01-27 Views:  288 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

Faulty symptom: After upgrade SuSE Linux kernel in SAP HANA solution, the ES3000V2 SSD card is invisible in Linux kernel.

Version Information: RH5885HV3 + SuSE 12 SP1 + SAP HANA

ES3000V2 + Driver

Handling Process

1. Execute command “lsmod | grep hio”, no HIO driver kernel module can be found any more.

2. Execute command "find /lib/modules/`uname -r` -name hio.ko" can't find HIO driver either.

3. But we can find HIO driver in old kernel directory, by command "find /lib/modules/ -name hio.ko". Then, we can confirm it's a know issue of HIO driver.

Root Cause

In HIO driver versions before, it will not create copy driver module to new kernel directory when upgrade SuSE Linux kernel. And this issue is fixed in or later version.

There're two solutions:

1. Upgrade new version of driver, or later versions.

2. Create soft link to old HIO driver.

mkdir -p /lib/modules/`uname -r`/updates/hio/
cd  /lib/modules/`uname  -r`/updates/hio/
ln -s /lib/modules/{Old Kernel Version}/updates/hio/hio.ko hio.ko  #Note, {Old Kernel Version} must be replaced as real value.

depmod -a
modinfo hio
modprobe hio
