A Huawei NE40E is cut over to a network and is connected to a Cisco switch. After the interfaces are configured, the corresponding indicators on them are on, but ping fails between the two interfaces.
Create a VLAN on the Cisco switch, enter the corresponding VLANIF interface view to configure an IP address, and then add the Cisco switch's interface that is connected to the NE40E to the VLAN.
The ping succeeds.
No Layer 2 VLAN is created when an IP address is configured for the Layer 3 VLANIF interface. And then the interface connected to the NE40 is added to the VLAN.
On Huawei switches, you can enter the VLANIF interface view to configure an IP address only after a Layer 2 VLAN is configured; however, on Cisco switches, you can directly enter the VLANIF interface view to configure an IP address and add an interface to a VLAN without creating the VLAN first. Although the Cisco switch supports the preceding configuration, the created interface does not take effect.
