Link Problem Between Brocade and Cisco Fibre Channel Switches

Issue Description

A Brocade switch is connected to port 19 on a Cisco 9134 switch through a multi-mode optical fiber. The port indicator is in normal state. However, the port state queried on the Cisco switch is down according to the message fc1/19 is down (Isolation due to zone merge failure). The optical link between the blade server and the Cisco switch is actually down.

Alarm Information

The port state queried on the Cisco switch is down.

Handling Process

On the Brocade switch, enable the AG mode and map each port that connects to a blade to port 15 (which is an external port that connects to the Cisco switch). Enable the NPIV function of the Cisco switch. Then the link problem between the Brocade and Cisco switches is solved.

The AG mode must be enabled to allow interconnection between heterogeneous Fibre Channel switches.
