Root Cause

In earlier versions, the Clear password for console user option is unavailable when a user attempts to change the console login password using the BootROM.

Solution

Delete the configuration file and restart the switch so that you can log in to the switch without entering the console login password. You are advised to back up the configuration file before performing the operations.

To back up the configuration file, perform the following operations:
a. Enter the BootROM main menu.

b. Select 4. Enter serial submenu.

c. Select 3. Upload Configuration file to Ftp through ethernet interface to upload the configuration file to the FTP server.

d. Download the configuration file from the server.

Suggestions

If you clear the configuration file for next startup in the BootROM, the device restarts with no configurations (factory settings). After the device starts, export the configuration file and change the console port login configuration.Upload the modified configuration file to the switch, configure the switch to start with this configuration file, and restart the switch. In this way, you can log in to the switch without the need to enter the console login password.
