L2TP Dialup Failed on the AR1200, with the Error Code of 800

Publication Date:  2019-03-26 Views:  17 Downloads:  0
Issue Description

After L2TP VPN is configured on the AR1200 according to the product documentation and the PC registry is modified, the dialup failed, with the error code of 800.

Handling Process

Check the L2TP configuration.

 l2tp enable

 ip pool l2tpLns1

 gateway-list 192.168.10.1

 network 192.168.10.0 mask 255.255.255.0

 aaa

 authentication-scheme default

 authorization-scheme default

 accounting-scheme default

 domain default

 domain default_admin

 local-user grace password cipher %^%#azlN!-`}lUy5Ok(aN=7F+RNKE=,j9/#`<AG(#e$J%^%#

 local-user grace privilege level 0

 local-user grace service-type ppp

 interface Virtual-Template1

 ppp authentication-mode chap

 remote address pool l2tpLns1

 ip address 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0

 l2tp-group 1

 undo tunnel authentication

 allow l2tp virtual-template 1

The L2TP configuration is correct.

Remotely log in to the PC to check the PC configuration. Access Network and Sharing Center, and click Connect to a Network. During the connection, the terminal always uses PPTP to connect to the network but cannot switch to the L2TP connection mode.

Root Cause

The PC runs Windows 7. During the L2TP connection, if Type of VPN on the Security tab in the VPN Connection Properties dialog box is set to Automatic, the first connection mode is always used, that is, PPTP. As a result, the L2TP connection cannot be established.

Solution

On the Security tab, set Type of VPN to Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP/IPsec). Then the dialup succeeds and the PC can obtain an IP address.
