BGP Peer Relationship Fails to Be Established After Interface Replacement on an NE40EX8 V600R008

Publication Date:  2019-03-27 Views:  92 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

Device model: NE40E-X8

Version: V600R008C10SPC300

Networking before reconstruction: NE40E(Atm3/3/0.X)----BGP-----third-party router

Networking after reconstruction: NE40E (G3/2/X)------BGP------third-party router

Configuration script:

interface Atm3/3/0.X P2P

shutdown

pvc 6/100

 map ip 21.254.X.X broadcast

statistic enable

interface GigabitEthernet3/2/X

undo shutdown

ip address 21.254.X.X 255.255.255.252

undo dcn

Symptom:

After the ATM interface is replaced with an Ethernet interface, the IP address of the ATM interface is configured on the Ethernet interface. BGP peer relationships fail to be established.

Alarm Information

BGP:RM Return Error Code: 100663320, Operation: Get V4 out interface Index while Populating IF.

Might miss configuring ebgp-max-hop or GTSM for ebgp multi-hop peer.

Handling Process

1.Check the debugging information generated during BGP peer relationship establishment. The BGP peer relationship fails to be established because an error message is displayed during invoking of the RM interface.

BGP:RM Return Error Code: 100663320, Operation: Get V4 out interface Index while Populating IF.

Might miss configuring ebgp-max-hop or GTSM for ebgp multi-hop peer.

2.Analyze the cause of error with the code of 100663320.

Analyze the code according to the debugging information. It is found that during EBGP peer relationship establishment, the peer IP address is used to obtain the most appropriate local outbound interface as the outbound interface of the BGP peer. If the map IP address configured for ATM interface 3/3/0.1 is 21.254.0.93, the route management interface is invoked, and the ATM interface 3/3/0.1 is hit. However, the local IP address is not configured on the ATM interface, causing a failure to obtain the local outbound interface.
If the map IP address is not reported, the next-hop IP address is used to search for the local address configuration and GigabitEthernet 3/2/7 is hit. In this case, the BGP peer relationship can be established.

Root Cause

The original ATM interface is configured with a map IP address. If this map IP address exists, the ATM interface is hit when BGP obtains the index of the peer IP address from RM. However, the ATM interface is not configured with an IP address. Therefore, an error message is returned, leading to a failure in BGP peer relationship establishment.

Solution

Delete the map IP address of the ATM interface in addition to its local IP address.

interface Atm3/3/0.X P2P

undo map ip 21.254.X.X

END
