Issue Description

Problem with 2 Server 2288H V5 regarding VMware VSAN HCL.
The servers are both configured with SR430C-M (02311PCJ) and PCI-E Huawei LSI-3108 controller (02311KAJ).

As we can see they are with the same firmware, chipset and so on, but from the VSAN console we have this warning:

Handling Process

Based on the logs provided from the customer we could find the following:

Problem comes from “Switch to JBOD mode” which was enabled in the configuration utility of the integrated Raid Card.

We should go back to “Switch to Raid mode” in this menu then SDID would change from default “d207” to “da07”. After the modification the settings should look as in the above picture.

Please note:

Root Cause

“Switch to JBOD mode”  was enabled in the configuration utility of the integrated Raid Card

Solution

We should go back to “Switch to Raid mode” in this menu then SDID would change from default “d207” to “da07”. After the modification the settings should look as in the below picture.

The safest way to implement the solutin is to:

1.     Power off the server .
2.     Pull disks a little out of the server
3.     Power on server and implement solution.
4.     Power off the server , and insert disks.
5.     Power on server.

We should use this method because this setting might impact the data on disks. The disks are configuered in passthrough for VSAN, no raid on them.
