Dynamic updates for DNS PTR records

Issue Description

- customer need to Allow devices that using our switch as DHCP Server to dynamic update DNS and record PTR

         Customer has Huawei Switch act as DHCP Server and need to allow dynamic update DNS and record PTR



1- Allow devices that using our switch as DHCP Server to dynamic update DNS and record PTR.

2- Allow Domain Group to dynamic update DNS and record PTR

Handling Process

1- Modify the DNS settings of the PC NIC to enable the PC to actively update the DNS information

  • Go into the config of a Windows client's network adapter
  • IPv4 TCP/IP settings > "Advanced" button > "DNS" tab 
  • There are two checkboxes for "Register this connection's addresses in DNS" and "Use this connection's DNS suffix in DNS registration." If you check both checkboxes and ipconfig release & renew, a PTR record will appear

need some configuration on windows related to GPO

  •  Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Network\DNS Client\Register DNS records with connection-specific DNS suffix > Enabled
  •  Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Network\DNS  Client\Register PTR Records > Register if A record registration succeeds
Root Cause

1- The PC needs send packet to DNS server by itself

2-: need some configuration on windows related to GPO


Solution
