Eth-Trunk Configurations Cannot Be Deleted After a Stack Consisting of Four CE6855HI Switches Splits

Publication Date:  2019-04-12 Views:  148 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

Eth-Trunk configurations cannot be deleted after a stack consisting of four CE6855HI switches splits and the following message is displayed: Error: The parameter of trunk command is invalid, because the trunk has member interfaces.

[~CE6855-iStack]undo int Eth-Trunk 41

Error: The parameter of trunk command is invalid, because the trunk has member interfaces.

Handling Process

1.       Run the display interface eth-trunk 41 command to check whether any physical member interface exists in Eth-Trunk41.

Eth-Trunk41 current state : DOWN (ifindex: 254)

Line protocol current state : DOWN

Switch Port, PVID :   1, TPID : 8100(Hex), Hash Arithmetic : profile default, The Maximum Frame Length is 9216

Internet protocol processing : disabled

IP Sending Frames' Format is PKTFMT_ETHNT_2, Hardware address is H-H-H

The Number of Ports in Trunk : 0

The Number of Up Ports in Trunk : 0

2.       The problem occurs after the stack splits. It is suspected that the member interfaces of Eth-Trunk41 still reside on the two switches removed from the stack. Run the display current-configuration inactive command to check offline configurations of the switches.

*interface 10GE3/0/1

* eth-trunk 41

*interface 10GE4/0/1

* eth-trunk 41

According to the collected offline configurations, there are offline configurations of Eth-Trunk41. After the offline configurations are deleted using the clear inactive-configuration command, the Eth-Trunk configurations are successfully deleted.

Root Cause

After the stack splits, the switches have offline configurations. As a result, the Eth-Trunk configurations fail to be deleted.

Run the clear inactive-configuration command to clear the offline configurations.
