Can a GE Interface Use 4-Core Network Cables for Communication?

Publication Date:  2019-04-12 Views:  93 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

Can a GE interface use 4-core network cables for communication?

Handling Process

A GE interface can use 4-core network cables (1, 2, 3, 6) for communication.

By default, a GE port requires 8-core network cables to transmit signals. A GE interface using 4-core network cables cannot receive negotiation signals from its peer, and the maximum transmission rate of a 4-core network cable is 100 Mbps. You can run the set ethernet speed down-grade command to enable the rate decrease auto-negotiation function on a GE interface.
