Replacing Data Disks on the FusionInsight Platform Online

Issue Description

Currently, RAID 0 data disk (HDFS) made of LSI3108 card are used on the FusionInsight platform. When the hard disk is faulty, restart the server to access the RAID card management page and make RAID 0 again. In this way, many potential risks exist. To reduce operation risks, use the SCSI card management tool MegaCLI provided by LSI to replace faulty disks online.

Alarm Information

Alarms indicating hard disk faults are reported.

Handling Process

1. Run the ps -ef | grep -v "grep" | grep "diskmgt" command to check whether the diskmgt process exists in the system. If it does not, do not perform the following steps.

2. Check whether the diskmgt process exists and replace the faulty hard disk. Run the /opt/MegaRAID/MegaCLi/MegaCli64 -PDList -aALL | more command to view the information about all the hard disks in the system. The "more" added in the command indicates that the contents are displayed by page. Press the space bar to go to the next page. As shown in the following figure, the hard disk whose ID is 3 is not added to any RAID group indicating that the hard disk is the newly-replaced one.

The following figure shows the hard disk that has been added to the RAID group.

3. Create RAID 0 by running the /opt/MegaRAID/MegaCli/MegaCli64 -CfgLdAdd -r0 [0:3] WB Direct -a0 command. In this command, the ID of the hard disk is 3. (The first number in the brackets indicates the ID of the first RAID controller card, and the second digit indicates the ID of the hard disk.).

4. Run the df -h command to view 12 hard disks (data1-data12).

As shown in the following figure, data6 is missing. Wait for about ten minutes after steps 1 to 3 are performed. The system automatically formats the disk and creates a file system. Then, run the df -h command to confirm that the system automatically mounts data 6.

Root Cause
The disks are faulty.

Upload the MegaCLI installation package of the SCSI card management tool provided by LSI to the current operating system.

For example:

Upload the rpm packages of Lib_Utils and MegaCLI to the /home page of linux OS.

Run the rpm -ivh Lib_Utilsxxx.rpm command (xxx indicates the Lib_Utils version number) to install the Utils library file.

Run the rpm -ivh MegaCLixxx.rpm command (xxx indicates the MegaCLi version number) to install the MegaCLI.


Before deploying the FusionInsight platform, install the MegaCLI tool to facilitate subsequent maintenance operations.
