ARP Entry Learning Fails After a Master/Slave Switchback on an NE40E V600R008C10SPC300 Configured with VRRP

Publication Date:  2019-04-16 Views:  65 Downloads:  0

Issue Description

An NE40E V600R008C10SPC300 configured with VRRP is interconnected with an Eudemon1000E-N. After G 3/1/0 of the master device is down and the then made up, G 3/1/0 of the slave device is down. The ping test shows that the NE40E fails to be directly connected to the firewall.
Network topology: The NE40E configured with VRRP is interconnected with the firewall using an Eth-Trunk.

The master device fails to properly learn ARP entries (The master device learns ARP entries of the downstream firewall through the slave device, and the downstream interface of the slave device is down). As a result, the NE40E fails to be directly connected to the firewall.

Handling Process

Use either of the following methods to allow interfaces on the downstream firewall to proactively send gratuitous ARP packets to update the ARP entries of the NE40E:
1. Run the gratuitous-arp send enable interval 10 command to enable the function to send gratuitous ARP packets on the firewall interface.
2. Run the port-master command on the Eth-Trunk member interfaces of the firewall so that the firewall proactively sends gratuitous ARP packets when the physical status of a member interface is changed.
